Bill Canfield Fly-Fishing Camp at French Woods Sports & Arts Scholarships Available for August Session

The Hancock Herald - July 6th 2022

FUDR engages in numerous community-based activities to protect the Upper Delaware River and one of our most important efforts is the annual fly-fishing camp we host for kids aged 11-17 for two weeks every summer.

The impetus behind the camp was Bill Canfield and the Canfield family. Bill was an avid angler and friend of the rivers and streams of the Catskills region. He loved seeing kids fall in love with this sport. When Bill passed away, his family set up a fund to help kids do just that.

The camp is led and supervised by numerous FUDR volunteers and includes some of the most knowledgeable and experienced anglers on the Upper Delaware River.

Thanks to our partnership with the world-renowned French Woods Sports and Arts Camp in Hancock, our campers are fully integrated into their first-class curriculum while they learn the fundamental skills of fly fishing, fly tying, and the importance of keeping the Upper Delaware River clean and healthy.

The camp nurtures both a love for the sport of fly fishing and a river conservation ethic that will last a lifetime and cultivate the next generation of river protectors. '

Our best wishes to our campers this year! We still have openings for the August 7-14 session! Scholarships are available and first-time campers receive a free Orvis fly rod and reel. For more information contact: Richelle Dufton, Richelle@ fudr.org 516-551-3205.
