Friends of the Upper Delaware River hiring summer field crew for CCC work in Upper Delaware River Watershed!
FUDR is partnering with Trout Unlimited and other local and regional groups to establish a Civilian Climate Corps (CCC). The work of the CCC will have direct, on-the-ground impacts on conservation and restoration of the Upper Delaware River watershed. The efforts of the CCC will improve flood resilience in our local communities, plant trees to improve habitat and protect biodiversity, and enhance recreational opportunities. The program is designed to build interest in conservation and stream restoration in the local young adult population in our communities, filling a clear workforce development need.
FUDR is now recruiting for their first field crew to be trained and dispatched in local communities in Sullivan County’s Neversink Watershed (link to Job description). The 12-week session, which will function similarly to a summer internship, will run from the end of May to mid-August. Corps members will learn to assess culverts (at the intersection of roads and streams) using a nationally recognized assessment method. This assessment includes an evaluation of structural integrity, aquatic passage, and flood resilience. This evaluation will be reviewed with local municipal leaders and used to prioritize the culverts most in need of replacement.
In addition to the public safety and water quality benefits of this work, the health of our water resources is essential in our local communities for the continued economic and recreational benefits. FUDR’s vision is to continue to expand the CCC in our ongoing effort to protect and restore the Upper Delaware River watershed.
Friends of the Upper Delaware River (FUDR) works to protect and restore the UDR watershed for the benefit of local economies, communities, people, and the environment. FUDR engages communities and people to protect the river and the world class wild trout fishery, revitalize local economies, and build strong coalitions at the local, regional, and national level.
In collaboration with our many valued partners, FUDR has brought over $3.5 million dollars into the UDR Watershed for stream restoration projects.
