Director of Watershed Programs

Position Description 

This full time position will work collaboratively with the Executive Director to supervise FUDR staff members and develop relationships with conservation partners to effectively lead FUDR’s Watershed Programs, including but not limited to: Watershed Protection and Restoration, Youth Outreach, and Upper Delaware River Watershed Network.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Play the primary leadership role in development,  management and implementation of FUDR’s Watershed Programs:

  2. Watershed Protection and Restoration Program: FUDR manages several on-the-ground stream restoration and protection projects each year. Responsibilities include grant management, permitting, monitoring to ensure goals/deliverables are met, landowner outreach, and other duties in collaboration with the FUDR team.

  3. Youth Outreach Program: FUDR hosts an annual summer camp and a summer internship program as funding allows. Responsibilities include budget management, scheduling, hiring, program planning and supervision.

  4. Upper Delaware River Watershed Network: FUDR is funded by NYS to develop and manage a network of watershed partners. Responsibilities include monthly meetings with steering committee, contract and budget management, managing a regrant program annually, manage partnership with NYS DEC.

  5. Fundraising responsibilities will primarily focus on finding grant opportunities and grant writing.

  6. Communicate effectively with the internal FUDR team, FUDR’s partners, and the community. Can include: Drafting  position papers, media releases, and action alerts on UDR watershed programs and events.

  7. Meet with stakeholders to discuss program status and goals

  8. Organize and engage members, nonprofits, and policy makers 

  9. Create and manage systems to track information as necessary for grant reporting, personnel management, expense tracking, etc.

  10. Design and strategically implement new programs that support the organization’s objectives

  11. Evaluate and assess the programs’ strengths and weaknesses

  12. Assist with marketing of events and programs

  13. Participate in annual conferences or other key events - will include some travel throughout the Delaware River watershed as well as Albany, NY and Washington, DC.

Skills and Requirements 

  1. 5-7 years relevant and progressively responsible work experience including managing staff.

  2. Bachelor’s degree required.

  3. In-depth knowledge the conservation field. Specific knowledge of watershed program management and coalition building preferred.

  4. Experience working with diverse populations.

  5. Public speaking and presentation skills, as well as strong written communication skills.

  6. Proven planning and analytical skills to evaluate complex situations and recommend next steps/solutions. 

  7. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google programs. 

  8. Ability to handle multiple tasks, projects and priorities effectively and professionally.

  9. Ability to travel and current driver’s license required. Access to a vehicle required.

Salary Range: $75,000 - $90,000 DOE

Reports to: Executive Director 

Location: Hybrid. Anticipated to be two days per week in office in Hancock, NY
